Choosing the right career is very crucial. The decision you make now is going to have an effect on you for a very long time.
What most students do is that they approach their older siblings or parents or some successful adult for advice. You might have done the same. It is good to take notes from experienced people but never make a decision so huge on someone else’s experience. Say, your father has been successful and has flourished in the oil and gas industry, it does not necessarily mean that if you follow in his footsteps you will find success as well. You might not have the aptitude to be the part of that particular industry. There are a few questions that you need to ask yourself before applying for a program too any university.
What do I enjoy doing most?
This is a very important question. You need to find out one thing that you want to do in life- One thing of which you would never get tired of. It is proven through studies that success directly depends on whether a person enjoys what he is doing.
How can I be sure of what I want?
To be sure of your career choice you must imagine yourself doing that job again and again for the rest of your life. Another way is to interact with people in that field, and ask as many questions about their job as you can. This will give you a rough idea to what you might be getting into.
Join short courses relating that career, if you enjoy the courses being taught in those courses you will definitely do great in the next four years of your university.
If I pursue my passion would I be able to pay my bills?
Many of you might have thought of something which you feel is not a lucrative career choice. Search for jobs closely relating to your passion. For a significant amount of people, being satisfied with the work they are doing is much more important than monetary gains.
